The Philadelphia Trail Club
The Philadelphia Trail Club was founded in 1931 and has been in continuous existence ever since. Hikes are led each Saturday and Sunday throughout the year except in July and August when there are only occasional hikes and picnics at the carillon concerts at Valley Forge National Park. The Club also hosts some bicycle rides.
Hikes are usually held within easy driving distance of Philadelphia, with occasional hikes further afield--in the Poconos, the New Jersey Pine Barrens and Maryland for example--although the Club has also sponsored more extensive excursions to Switzerland, England and Scotland among other destinations. Most hikes range from 5 to 10 miles in distance and from very easy to strenuous. Each hike description includes a numerical classification as to difficulty so that individuals can select those hikes which seem appropriate to their abilities.
Guests are welcome on all hikes, but
guests who enjoy hiking and who participate in multiple hikes with the Club are
encouraged to become members in order to help support the Club's activities.
Member dues are $10 per year, including electronic copies of the bi-monthly
Bulletin. Add $3 if you want paper copies of the Bulletin mailed to you.
